In order to have a little fun, celebrate the upcoming weekend, and learn something new about the pharmaceutical industry/clinical trials; we’ve decided to start posting a short little blog series every Friday, “Pharma Friday Facts.” So, without further ado:
Pharma Friday – Fact #1 – Who Performed The First Clinical Trial?

Answer: James Lind typically receives credit for performing the very first documented clinical trial in May 1747. In an experiment designed to find a cure for scurvy, a disease that had a severe effect on sailors at the time, Lind compared the effects that various items such as vinegar, citric fruits (oranges and lemons), garlic, and salt water had on infected subjects. He concluded that only the oranges and lemons had a significant impact on treating scurvy.
