Pharma Friday – Which Famous Pharmacist Invented Coca-Cola?
TGIF! We’re back with another edition of our “Pharma Friday Facts.” Coca-Cola, affectionately known around the world as “Coke,” is something that we are all familiar with. But did you know that it was actually invented by a pharmacist?
Pharma Friday – Fact #2 – Which Famous Pharmacist Invented Coca-Cola?
Answer: Coca-Cola was invented in the city of Atlanta, Georgia by pharmacist John Stith Pemberton in 1886. The concoction was made for sale at a local establishment named “Jacobs’ Pharmacy” for five cents a serving. Pemberton created the tasty syrup for the soda and it was a huge hit around the city; the rest, my friends, is history. Surprisingly enough, Dr. Pepper was also invented by a pharmacist! Charles Alderton invented the flavorful soft drink in Texas and starting serving it up around 1885, making it older than Coke!
